Meeting Types
Regular Meetings
The Liberty Board of Education conducts its regular business meeting on the third Monday of each month except during January and February when the meeting is held on the third Tuesday to avoid conflict with national holidays. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Administration Center, 650 Conistor, and are open to the public.
Special Meetings
Special meetings may be held at times determined by the board president or a majority of the board. The purpose of the meeting will be stated when notifying the public.
Closed Sessions
The Board of Education meets in closed session to discuss matters relating to legal actions, real estate leasing, or purchasing where public knowledge of the transaction might adversely affect the legal consideration, personnel matters, and confidential matters pertaining to specific students. These sessions are usually held immediately before or after regular open meetings of the board.
Honoring Excellence
Each month during the school year, Liberty Public Schools and the Board of Education make a special effort to recognize the good work that goes on each day in all schools. Through a program called Honoring Excellence, school employees, students, and clubs and organizations are recognized for their outstanding contributions to our district.
What to Expect at a Board Meeting
Action items on which the board must vote are addressed early in the agenda. Other regular features of the board meeting include a report from the superintendent, correspondence, and public comment. Concerns brought forward during public comment are addressed by Mr. Brewer and other appropriate staff members, usually the following day. This does not mean that public concerns are not of interest to the board. Rather, we believe that most patron concerns can be dealt with most effectively and efficiently when handled by appropriate staff, on a more personal level, in accordance with board policy. Administrative staff will report back to the board on resolution of public comment concerns expressed at previous meetings.
