Election Result from Tuesday, November 8
On Tuesday, November 8, the Liberty Public Schools tax levy issue put before voters failed in a tightly contested issue. According to results posted on the Clay County, Missouri Board of Election Commissioners website, 48.49% voted YES, while 51.51% voted NO.Liberty Public Schools Superintendent Mike Brewer addressed District staff in an email earlier on Wednesday.
"There is little doubt that the slow economy was the main factor in the levy's defeat," Brewer said. "During the campaign process, it was obvious that the community has the utmost respect and appreciation for the work you do on behalf of students...yesterday's vote does not change that one ounce."
Brewer also noted that the District will find creative and effective ways of handling the overcrowding and continued growth challenges. District Administration and the Board of Education are expected to discuss various options in future meetings.
The next regular LPS Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 21, 2011. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and will take place at the District Administration Center, located at 650 Conistor.
