Elliott 4th in National Forensics event
More than 3,200 students were in Kansas City, Missouri, June 13-18 to participate in the world's largest academic competition, the National Forensic League (NFL) National Tournament.The Park Hill and North Kansas City school districts hosted the "Jazzin' it up in KC" national tournament, which drew visitors from across the country and as far away as China. Qualifiers to the tournament competed for more than $200,000 in college scholarships in ten main, five supplemental, and two consolation events. Liberty High School had 13 students competing at the tournament. Alexis Elliott placed 4th in the nation in United States Extemporaneous Speaking. Over 200 students started out in the event and Elliott was one of the last six that performed last Friday in the final round at the KCI Expo Center. Elliott was also recognized for being one of 28 students out of the 3,200 that has qualified to the national tournament for four years. Also placing at the tournament was Kristen Wright in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking (top 20), Matt Filla in Lincoln Douglas Debate (top 30) and Jessica Gehrig semifinalist in Student Congress. Congratulations to the speech and debate team for their strong showing at nationals.
