Governor Nixon Visits LPS

Governor Jay Nixon made a pit stop during his busy day in Liberty to visit with students at Liberty North on Thursday, August 25. The main focus of his trip was to show his support for the A+ program and the engineering program, Project Lead the Way.

“There are three reasons why I am here. First, this school competed and got a whole series of zero interest bonds, which saved two million dollars in interest. The second is, already this school is an A+ school. We eventually want to get all schools in Missouri to be A+ schools. The third reason is math and science. The jobs of the future are in math and science. If students have the aptitude for these subjects they should definitely continue in them,” Nixon said.

After visiting a Pre-calculus and Project Lead the Way class, the governor was taken on a brief tour of the new fieldhouse and theater, where he met with Liberty and Liberty North A+ students.

“The federal reserve did a study which showed that for the first time in United States history student loan dept exceeded credit card debt. When young folks get out of college right now, they are already in debt. That is one of the reasons we have the A+ program,” Nixon said.

He went on to explain how vital community support was to make this school a reality.

“This is such a nice facility and that is because the people in this community value public education.”
