Kernell named District Teacher of the Year
Liberty Public Schools congratulates Lewis and Clark 2nd grade teacher Michele Kernell, the 2010-11 LPS District Teacher of the Year!Liberty Public Schools rolled out the red carpet and honored the 6th LPS District Teacher of the Year, Michele Kernell, at a ceremony held at her school Friday April 30.
Kernell has taught 2nd grade at Lewis and Clark Elementary for the last 20 years. Prior to coming to Liberty Public Schools in 1990, Kernell was a 4th grade teacher in Columbia (MO) Public Schools. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Missouri in 1987, then obtained her Master’s Degree from Baker University in 2005.
“Michele means so much to all of us at Lewis and Clark. The impact that she has had on our school for the past 20 years is unbelievable,” said Lewis and Clark Principal Kyle Palmer.
“She has touched the lives of so many students, staff members, and families during her time here. She is truly deserving of this award. She pours her heart and soul into teaching students each and every day”.
This is the first year an elementary school teacher has received the distinction of being named LPS Teacher of the Year in the six years the program has existed in the district.
“Michele is an excellent representative of the outstanding teachers we have in our district,” said LPS Superintendent Mike Brewer. “Her passion for teaching our children is inspiring.”
Kernell will now represent Liberty Public Schools in the State Teacher of the Year competition, with the state representative being chosen in the fall.
