Liberty Named One of "Best Towns for Families"
Residents have long known that the City of Liberty, MO, is a very good place to live and raise a family. Now, as one of Family Circle Magazine's "Best Towns and Cities for Families", the rest of the nation knows, too.On July 6, 2011, Family Circle Magazine, one of the most read monthly magazine in the world, announced the results of its exclusive survey to identify the best Towns and Cities across the country for families and included Liberty in the #3 spot. According to a Family Circle press release, "the communities featured in the magazine's annual roundup of perfect places to call home combine affordable housing, good neighbors, green spaces, strong public school systems and giving spirits. The results of the comprehensive survey appear in Family Circle's August 2011 issue, currently on newsstands.
According to Family Circle's survey, the top three Best Towns for Families in 2011 are:
1. St. Charles, Illinois
2. Peachtree, Georgia
3. Liberty, MO
"We've always known what a great place Liberty is to raise a family," said Liberty Mayor Greg Canuteson. "It's fantastic that others are starting to recognize that as well. This ranking is really just a reflection of all the great people and all the wonderful community partners in Liberty. I couldn't be more proud of our city."
As mentioned above, a key piece of criteria in the selection process is a strong public school system. Liberty Public Schools, which reaches beyond the City of Liberty limits into Kansas City, MO, is widely recognized as one of the State's top school district's. The district's academic and extracurricular strengths are a draw for many new families. Named a High Performing School District by the State of Missouri for 10 consecutive years, Liberty Public Schools has received the highest accreditation given to a Missouri school district. Only 6 percent of s chool districts state-wide have received this honor for 10 straight years.
"I am very proud that Family Circle Magazine selected Liberty as one of the best places to raise a family," said LPS Superintendent Mike Brewer. "Nancy and I certainly feel blessed to have raised our four children in such a positive and child-centered environment. The manner in which our community and school district rallies around students is both humbling and inspiring."
