LPS update on Summer School

Questions continue to persist with regard to the uncertainty of the State of Missouri’s funding of Summer School Programs and how it will affect Liberty Public Schools. LPS recognizes the difficult situation this places on our parents as they try to solidify summer plans.

The state will approve their budget on May 7.  At that time the district will know how to move forward with a summer school plan.
At Monday night’s regular Board of Education Meeting, the summer school state funding issue was discussed at great length and it was determined that should state funding be cut, LPS will offer a fee-based summer school program with the fee set at $300 per student attending.  This fee would not be charged to students that have extended school year plans or credit recovery at the high school level.
The status of funding is currently an ever-changing situation at the state level.  Liberty Public Schools is committed to giving our families an educational alternative for the month of June.
In Tuesday's edition of the Kansas City Star, an article appeared discussing the complexities of this issue.  To view the article click the link provided:  http://www.kansascity.com/2010/04/19/1888693/schools-in-missouri-could-see.html
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we continue to deal with this unique situation.
