Williamson Wins Bus Competition
A total of five Liberty Public Schools bus drivers competed at the annual Missouri State School Bus Safety Competition last week.Highlighting the individual performances for Liberty drivers was Laura Williamson, who placed 1st in the Transit Bus Experienced category. Williamson’s score was the highest in the state, which now allows her to represent Missouri in the international competition, which will be held in St. Louis.
The state competition consisted of tasks that included maneuvering through a challenging driving course and completing a written exam that tests knowledge of operational and safety standards.
Other LPS drivers that received high marks were Rand Salisbury, who placed 4th in the Transit Bus Experienced category, and Elaine Jackson, who finished 3rd in the Transit Bus Rookie division. Also representing Liberty at the event were Joyce Mitchell and Vickie Shinneman.
This is Liberty’s fourth consecutive year to represent Missouri in the International competition. Last year, LPS took home 1st place at the International competition, which consists of top bus drivers from the United States and Canada.
