BE A PART OF NAMING THE SECOND HIGH SCHOOL
The Liberty community will make history in the fall of 2010 when we open a second high school. We need your ideas as we look to name our new school. Criteria for naming the second high school:
t Schools shall be named for physical locations and/or geographic areas.
t Every suggested name must have a clear rationale or explanation as to how the name will be appropriate to the new school and the district as a whole.
t Duplication of the name of another school in the Kansas City metro area will be avoided to the greatest extent possible.
t The school name should not be representative of a single group, individual, or subdivision.
You may submit as many names as you wish, but each must have a clear rationale and fit the criteria.
Submitted names will be reviewed by the Blue Ribbon Naming Committee in June. Five finalists will be submitted to the school board for final selection, which will be announced in August 2008.
The deadline to submit a name is May 23, 2008, at 3 p.m. Go to our Web site – www.liberty.k12.mo.us and click on the Name the Second High School icon at the top of the page under Empowering Excellence.

MAY IS BETTER SPEECH AND HEARING MONTH
May is a nationally recognized month to celebrate and raise awareness of speech language pathology and audiology as professions. Did you know that speech language pathologists hold at least a master’s degree, the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech and Hearing Association, and state licensure where required? Did you know that Liberty Public Schools currently employs 16 speech language pathologists who evaluate and treat speech and language disorders including voice, cognitive-communication disorders, fluency disorders, swallowing disorders, language disorders, and related disorders from the early childhood level through high school? During the month of May, celebrations will be happening in every school throughout Liberty, and a presentation will be given to the LPS Board during their May 19 meeting.
DISTRICT EMPLOYEE SELECTED TO WORK WITH TEACHERS ACROSS THE STATE
After a year of professional development, Bev Leachman has been chosen as one of the STARR teachers for the state of Missouri next year. Bev has served LPS as a speech pathologist and currently as a preschool teacher. Next year, Bev will travel to other school districts and work with teachers to implement best practices. We wish her the best!
