LIBERTY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA SEASON OPENER FEATURES TWO LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
The Liberty Symphony Orchestra will open its 37th with a Family Concert, Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at the Liberty Performing Arts Theatre, 1600 S. Withers Road, Liberty, MO. The Liberty Symphony Orchestra (LSO) inaugurates its 2007-2008 Performance Season with an appealing Family Concert that all ages will enjoy. The concert will open with a favorite of audiences everywhere—
Fanfare for the Common Man, by Aaron Copland. A highlight of the concert will be performances by the two winners of the Liberty Symphony 2007 High School Artist Competition: Brad Daugherty, baritone, singing “Revenge, Timotheus Cries” from Handel’s Alexander’s Feast and Alison Tatum, violin, performing the beloved Violin Concerto in E minor by Mendelssohn. We didn’t garner enough votes last week, but the Liberty – Rockhurst game on Friday may be highlighted on FOX 4 Sports on Friday night. Your votes are needed to make that happen.

9) Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will see four games listed
10) Click on Liberty at Rockhurst
11) Vote
According to FOX 4, the winning school will have a FOX reporter show up to cover the game and SKY FOX
will fly overhead. You can cast one vote per hour. Voting ends on Thursday at 1 p.m. The winning school will be announced on Fox 4 at 6 p.m. Thursday night.
ANNUAL COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT SCHEDULED AT LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL
Liberty High School Guidance Department will sponsor its annual College Planning Night at 6:30 p.m. September 13 at Liberty High School. Participants will be able to attend three sessions throughout the evening. The sessions cover a variety of topics: Writing College Essays, Gaining Admission to Competitive Colleges, Career and Technical Education, College Planning/Research Steps, Financial Aid Opportunities, A+ Schools Program, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Transitioning Students with Special Needs to College and Tips for the Prospective Student-Athlete. CLINIC OFFERED FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN WRESTLING
There will be a FREE wrestling clinic sponsored by the Liberty High School and junior high wrestling coaches for students in grades K-7. This clinic will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on September 25 & 27 and October 2 & 4. Instruction will be given by Liberty coaches and current Liberty High School wrestlers. This clinic is designed to excite youth about the sport of high school wrestling. FREE HEALTH AND SAFETY CLINIC
Jessica Tasetano, a student at Liberty High School, is coordinating a Health and Safety Fair as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award Project. The event will take place from noon – 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 22 at 601 S. 291 Highway in the parking lot of the Century 21 Astro Realty, Inc. (next to Blockbuster Video).
Free hot dogs, popcorn and beverages will be provided. Bring the children to enjoy clowns, moonwalk and music! Participants include the Clay County Health Department, Liberty Police Department, Liberty Fire Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and McGruff the Crime Dog. The event is free and open to the public.
2007 POM/CHEERLEADER KIDDIE CLINIC
The Liberty Sapphires and Liberty Varsity Cheerleaders will be hosting their annual Kiddie Clinic on October 6, 2007. The clinic will start at 8:30am with registration and conclude at 10:30am. Students in grades K-5 are invited to attend. Participants will dance and cheer with the varsity squads at the Liberty Blue Jays football game on October 12, 2007. Participants will receive a T-shirt, pom pons, and a commemorative photo. Additionally, cheerleading skirts will be available for purchase the day of the clinic. Please pre-register for this event by October 4, 2007. ALEXANDER DONIPHAN HOSTS FIRST ANNUAL SPAGHETTI DINNER FUNDRAISER AND FAMILY FUN NIGHT!!!
Join the families of Alexander Doniphan students from 5:30 – 8:30 pm on Friday, October 19, for a spaghetti dinner, games, music, a raffle/silent auction for great prizes, plus a staff karaoke contest! Tickets can be purchased from a Doniphan student, or by calling the school at 736-5400. Pre-sale tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children 4-12 years old. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 for adults and $6 for children 4-12 years old. Children 3 and under are free with a paid adult ticket. Ticket price includes spaghetti, salad, bread and drink. This is Alexander Doniphan’s first year to try a new fundraising concept in response to parent requests. Help them meet their goal and have a great time in the process! See you there!
RECYCLE YOUR CONSUMER ELECTRONICS
Liberty Junior High PTSA is conducting a recycling fundraiser. There is nothing to buy. The PTSA is simply asking you to protect the environment by donating your used cell phones, DVD Movies/Video game(s), portable DVD players, laptop/notebook computer(s), MP3 player, video console(s), digital camera(s), digital picture frames, and portable navigation and GPS devices. 100 percent of the proceeds will help fund LJHS PTSA programs. Students may drop off items at the LJHS office recycle box or by contacting Jerri Griffith at griff64068@yahoo.com
STAFF CONGRATS
Jason Carr, Health and PE teacher at South Valley Junior High, was presented a special award by the Vice President of Service Excellence from North Kansas City Hospital. Jason was at the hospital a few weeks ago visiting a family member and while eating in the hospital cafeteria, a woman began to choke on some food. Jason jumped in and performed the Heimlich maneuver and saved the woman’s life. Jason was presented the away in front of his 8th grade health/PE classes. Way to go, Jason!
