PROJECT LEAD THE WAY GAINS RECOGNITION
On Monday evening Dr. Phil Wright was presented with a plaque from the Regional Director of Project Lead the Way naming Liberty as a PLTW Model School.  As a result, the district will be featured in the 2008 Model Schools Yearbook, a national publication.  The pre-engineering program is offered to junior high and high school students.  Last year 200 students participated in the program; and in just one year the program has grown to 800 students. The program is sponsored by Project Lead the Way, the Kauffman Foundation, SME Foundation, and Metropolitan Community Colleges.  Congratulations to the coordinators and staff that have worked so hard to bring this new program to our district.

 ATTENTION ALL PARENTS OF SENIORS
Senior ads for the yearbook are due on or before Thursday, September 27th. All senior parents should have received a mailer detailing the ads.  For more information e-mail the yearbook adviser, Ronna Sparks-Woodward at rsparkswoodward@liberty.k12.mo.us or call 816-736-5353.

Also, seniors who have not had their picture taken for the yearbook need to do so by the end of September at Reed Portrait Gallery; call 436-5550 to schedule an appointment.  Otherwise, all not-pictured seniors will need to have their pictures taken on the last-chance day of Wednesday, October 3rd from 2-7 p.m. at the high school.  Wednesday, October 3rd is the last day a senior can have his or her picture taken for the yearbook.

FAMILY ACTIONS PROGRAM OFFERED
The Family Actions program is based on the simple truth that we feel good about ourselves when we do positive actions. In each of the seven, two-hour sessions, families will learn the philosophy and basics of one of six units (Self-Concept, Body & Mind, Managing Yourself, Treating Others, Truth, and Improving Yourself). During the first half of each session, the parents and youth have separate, concurrent classes with age-appropriate lessons that cover the same concepts. In the wrap-up portion of each session, both groups come together to review and participate in an activity as whole families. This class improves the relationships, communication, and dynamics of family life. Each family will receive a spiral-bound lesson manual with materials, including a storage box and music CD with family songs.
