LJHS STUDENTS PITCH IN TO HELP LOCAL ORGANIZATION
Last Thursday, a representative of In As Much Ministries approached the staff at Liberty Junior High School about an urgent need. The shelves at the food pantry, here in Liberty, were nearly bare. The student council challenged the student body to collect as many cans as possible during Spirit Week. The students responded and collected over 1400 cans in three days. In as Much Ministries is a local non-profit organization that provides food, medical/health services, and rent and utility assistance to area residents. Special thanks to the students at LJHS for seeing a need and meeting it!

FAMILY ACTIONS PROGRAM OFFERED
The Family Actions program is based on the simple truth that we feel good about ourselves when we do positive actions. In each of the seven, two-hour sessions, families will learn the philosophy and basics of one of six units (Self-Concept, Body & Mind, Managing Yourself, Treating Others, Truth, and Improving Yourself). During the first half of each session, the parents and youth have separate, concurrent classes with age-appropriate lessons that cover the same concepts. In the wrap-up portion of each session, both groups come together to review and participate in an activity as whole families. This class improves the relationships, communication, and dynamics of family life. Each family will receive a spiral-bound lesson manual with materials, including a storage box and music CD with family songs.

LIBERTY COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS TREE PROGRAM TO EXPAND SERVICE AREA
The following is a news release issued by the City of Liberty earlier this week.
In an effort to benefit a greater number of Liberty area residents, the Liberty Community Christmas Tree Program will accept applications from residents in the Liberty School District.
Because the Liberty community extends beyond the city limits, and the entire Liberty School District has played a vital role in the viability and success of the program, the Community Christmas Tree Commission recently approved expanding the program’s service area. Schools in the Liberty School District have been the primary contributors of canned and non-perishable foods through their annual food drives.
The Liberty Christmas Tree Program is designed to lend a hand to disadvantaged families and seniors who are facing a difficult holiday season. Donations are used to provide volunteer shoppers with vouchers to purchase gifts at Sears Grand. Last year, program volunteers delivered gifts and food to 161 families with 431 children, and food to 106 seniors. This year’s program is expected to bring even better results as the service area now embraces the entire school district.
Applications will be accepted from October 8 through November 21 for those that need assistance during the holiday season. If you need assistance, call the Liberty Community Christmas Tree program at 816.792.1112 beginning October 8. Phones will be answered Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Deadline for applying for the Community Christmas Tree Program is November 21. If you would like to donate food or presents to the Community Christmas Tree Program, call 816.792.6042 for more information.
