Coffees with the Community
Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, Liberty Public Schools will begin hosting monthly opportunities for the community to learn more about the various happenings going on in LPS.
These one hour sessions will be attended by Superintendent Mike Brewer, who will take questions from the audience and update everyone in attendance of district news. This is also a time for an open discussion and presentation from a district representative on a specified topic each month.

- September: Mike Brewer State of the District
- LPS Superintendent Mike Brewer provided attendees of the September Coffee with the Community a District update, which included information on the November 8 ballot issue along with the KCMSD accreditation issue.
- October: District Safety and Security presented by Rick Fletcher
- The Coffee with the Community held on Thursday, October 20, 2011 focused on the topic of District Safety and Security. The discussion focused measures taken by LPS personnel to keep our students safe while at school. The PowerPoint presentation was given by LPS Director of Safety and Security Rick Fletcher.
- November: Internet Safety for our Students
- LPS Student Resource Officer and member of the Liberty Police Department, Heather Massey, presented to the audience on the subject of "Internet Safety for our Students". This session took place on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the District Administration Center.
- December: LPS Academic Services Overview
- In December 2011, Coffees with the Community featured members of the LPS Academic Services Department to provide an overview. Presenters included: Colleen Jones, Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services, Christopher Hand, Director of Assessment, Evaluation, and Testing, Andrea Sumy, Coordinator of Library Resources, and Dr. Barb Wippich.
- January 2012: Bullying in Schools
- On January 19, 2012, a panel of LPS staff provided valuable insight to parents and community members about the topic of "Bullying in Schools". The panel included: Dr. Jim Hammen, Director of Student Services, Greg Casel, Liberty High School Counselor, Tim Anderson, Liberty Junior High Counselor, and Rob Fisher, Manor Hill Elementary Counselor.
- February 2012: Early Childhood Education
- On Thursday, February 23, 2012, LPS welcomed the principal of the Early Childhood Center, Becky Gossett, to speak on the topic of Early Childhood Education in Liberty Public Schools.
- March 2012: Grade Configuration Changes for August 2013
- On Thursday, March 15, 2012, LPS Superintendent Mike Brewer and Scott Carr addressed the audience with detailed information on the Grade Configuration Changes scheduled for August 2013. The complete presentation can be viewed by clicking the link provided.
- April 2012: Health Services
- On Thursday, April 26, 2012, LPS Director of Health Services Kathy Ellermeier presented to the audience an update of happenings in her department.
