Elementary Standards-Based Reporting
Standards-based reporting is based on a specific set of standards that students need to meet for each grade level. Marks are not a comparison of one student to another, but rather a way to measure how well students are doing on grade-level standards. This assists all students to strive to meet higher expectations in the classroom.
Through the standards-based reporting process, students experience clear and common learning goals through an aligned curriculum, instruction and assessment system. Throughout the reporting process, students have opportunities to show mastery of the learning goals and to take more ownership in learning.
Teachers provide instruction that meets the needs of all students, both at their pace and at their instructional level.
Parents
Parents will understand exactly what their child should know and be able to do based upon standards-based reporting. Parents will know their child’s level of expertise in meeting each of the learning goals and can better monitor and support their child’s progress. Through standards-based reporting parents will understand that their child continually has the opportunity to show mastery.

Transition to Standards-Based Grade Card
Traditional letter grades will be used on the current 2011-2012 report card at all elementary sites. However, your student may be bringing home evidence of learning with marks of 1, 2, 3 or 4. For the 2011-2012 school year, Liberty Public Schools will pilot an elementary standards-based dual progress report at Manor Hill Elementary, Shoal Creek Elementary, Lewis and Clark Elementary, and Warren Hills Elementary.
