Objectives:
-Students will be able to identify, describe, summarize and/or illustrate the first ten amendments in the Bill of Rights. Social Studies (1.5, 4.2), Communication Arts (1.3, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8)
-Students will be able to recognize the basic rights of citizens reflected in the Bill of Rights. Social Studies (4.1, 4.2)
-Students will be able to identify three issues of today and create written amendments that will protect those issues as the newest part of the Bill of Rights. Social Studies (3.1, 3.6), Communication Arts (1.6, 1.8)

Introduction:
-Notify your students that you are going to do an experiment.
-Ask students that have blonde hair to stand up. Send those students to sit on the floor in the back of the room.
-Ignore the students who are on the floor and have a conversation with the remaining students. Give treats to those students still sitting at desks.
-After a couple of minutes, invite the students to return to their desks. Ask the students if what was done was fair. Find out how each group felt. Give the rest of the students a treat.
-Explain that as United States citizens we have rights and should be treated fairly.
-Reassure the students that you would never separate them or treat them that way in real life.

Guided Practice:
-Break the students into small groups.
-In each group, the students are to brainstorm the rights they need in order to learn.
-Once the students are finished, have several of the groups list their rights.

Independent Practice:
-Complete The Bill of Rights web quest.

Closure:
-Students can share their findings.

Assessment:
-Teacher observation & the WebQuest rubric will be used for assessment.
